Network Marketing Resources
One of the greatest things about Network Marketing is that there is a ton of support. There is support from your upline, there is support from your company, there is support from literally thousands of websites, and there is crucial support from mlm, network marketing and direct sales trade associations.
These institutions are in support of the industry that tie all network marketing companies and distributors together. These industry trade associations provide everyone in the networking business, at both the corporate and independent distributor levels, with a broad worldwide network of support.
There are a few major industry trade associations that you should know about:
The MLMIA - Multi-level Marketing International Association
The Multi-Level Marketing International Association (MLMIA), is "The Association for Network Marketing - Worldwide." A professionally managed not for profit trade organization which is strongly committed to the advancement of the rapidly growing Network Marketing industry.
Founded and managed since 1985 by highly experienced and successful Network Marketers, MLMIA focuses its efforts specifically on the protection, support and promotion of the individual opportunities and entrepreneurial aspects of the Network Marketing/Multi-Level Marketing/Direct Sales industry. From ongoing networking opportunities to high-powered government affair committees, MLMIA insures that its members are represented by skilled, well connected professionals in the Network Marketing industry.
Doris Wood, founder of the MLMIA, notes the main reasons for forming the Association: "We felt that the direct selling industry needed an organization that focused solely on the problems and issues of multilevel marketing companies. In addition, we felt that distributors needed to have a participatory role in industry issues, and therefore, we became the only trade association to accept as members both network marketing companies, as well as individual distributors. Our goal is to support the cause of multilevel marketing throughout the world."
The MLMIA also makes available to its corporate and individual members a comprehensive consumer benefits and insurance package for self-employed independent distributors.
Many network marketing companies (Nuskin, Oxyfresh, Enrich, Cell Tech, and Noevir, to name a few) have joined the MLMIA, and their distributors are already eligible for the benefits the association offers. If your company isn't involved, don't be shy about getting an individual membership. You'll enjoy the benefits of being part of something bigger.

The DSA - The Direct Selling Association
The DSA goes back to 1910, one of its founding members being Avon, though it then had a different name. The DSA has more than 200 active company members. One difference between the DSA and MLMIA is that the DSA does not allow membership for individual distributors. The DSA stands strongly behind the direct selling industry, and has on many occassions traveled across the country to testify on important issues that matter to this industry. It's most famous case was won in 1982 when it successfully convinced congress to change or amend the IRS code to recognize direct sellers (network marketers) as independant contractor status. DSA members are required to agree to a comprehensive ethics code, which commits them to fair business practices for both consumers and distributors.
The Association's mission is "To protect, serve and promote the effectiveness of member companies and the independent business people they represent. To ensure that the marketing by member companies of products and/or the direct sales opportunity is conducted with the highest level of business ethics and service to consumers."

The DRA - The Distributors Rights Association
A more recently created mlm association is the DRA, they provide similar benefits that the MLMIA and the DSA provide, yet it is another important force that you should know is working hard and willing to back you or your company up in any issue affecting the direct selling, mlm, network marketing industry where help is needed.
The Distributor Rights Association, or DRA, exists to build a bridge between Companies and their Distributors to foster greater understanding and communication. The rights of all concerned must be protected and cherished at all costs.
DRA Advocates for the Rights and Empowers Members (both Companies and Independent Representatives) in Multi-Level Marketing. Our goal is to to promote, preserve and protect the Company/Independent Contractor Relationships through establishing professional standards that are fair and just to all and attain the highest standard of Professional Conduct.

The Federal Trade Commssion
The FTC deals with issues that touch the economic life of every American. It is the only federal agency with both consumer protection and competition jurisdiction in broad sectors of the economy. The FTC pursues vigorous and effective law enforcement; advances consumers? interests by sharing its expertise with federal and state legislatures and U.S. and international government agencies; develops policy and research tools through hearings, workshops, and conferences; and creates practical and plain-language educational programs for consumers and businesses in a global marketplace with constantly changing technologies.
The FTC has been known to shut-down many companies operating under the name of network marketing but performing illegal activities. Pyramid scams and other money games that take the name of network marketing threaten the future activities of all distributors in the industry. The afformentioned organizations such as the DRA work hard everyday to keep the FTC from passing legislation that limits the opportuniteies of ligitimate and ethical network marketing operations.
As a distributor it is your job to know what the laws are, and how to properly promote your opportunity.
